The Defence ministry has approved defence procurement worth Rs 84,328 crore
On December 22, the Defence Procurement Board (DAC), headed by Defence Minister Manmohan Singh, approved the need for acceptance of 24 capital procurement proposals. The proposals, worth a total of Rs 84,328 crore, include six proposals from the Indian Army, six from the Indian Air Force, 10 from the Navy and two from the Indian Coast Guard. It is worth mentioning that 21 of these purchases came from domestic orders. This unprecedented move by the Defence Acquisition Board will not only modernise the armed forces but also provide substantial progress towards the goal of making India's defence industry self-reliant.
India, US hold joint military exercise on India-China border
On November 29, India and the US conducted a high-altitude combat exercise in the mountainous region along the India-China border. The exercise is taking place in Oli district of Uttarakhand, about 100 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) along the India-China border. The exercise involved officers and soldiers from the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army and the 2nd Brigade of the 11th Airborne Division of the United States.
